Jim: There is a difference - and it's a major one - between the Miniscribe story and the Iridium story. The Miniscribe story was one of proven criminal intent; the Iridium story is simply one of ineptitude. There is a BIG difference, and I will not be associated with any implication of criminality on the part of Iridium. I simply believe they made a major misjudgement, and when they got the system ready for service they absolutely blew it in the marketing department. Why some people still have their jobs is a puzzle to me, but that's water under the bridge. The Miniscribe illustration was to point out that flooding the market with product does the shareholders no good if it sits in a warehouse...

Globalstar's simpler plan will likely be the one that works. There will be bumps along the road to commercial activation, but they'll make it, I believe.

Iridium's technology is elegant; NASA has used it for a number of years. Sure, some calls are less than perfect, but most of the ones I've made - including all the overseas calls - have been excellent. That is not the problem here. The problem is lack of subscribers = lack of revenue = lack of compliance with loan terms = renegotiation = ? You know the routine...

Maurice may gloat all he wants, but I think he's too much of a gentleman to overdo it...
