SB, You do not have to know the winners in advance. You simply hold a diversified portfolio of potential winners reflecting the economy-at-large - past all bull and bear markets. Then, if the economy does well, you do well. Which, in the long run, most economies do; in the long run, an economy is unlikely to do worse than cash, as the Govt.'s taxation abilities go down as well, hence guaranteed interest rates go down. Of course, you may choose to do even less research and invest in the index, which I believe is a superior method. -BGR.
