Ron,

I think Yahoo and all the other search engines/portals stumbled upon the most important initial web surfing need: finding where the heck everything is in the chaotic world of the web. These companies obviously reaped immediate rewards.

However, the challenge now is keeping users at their site to "do stuff." I get the feeling that users are just merely passing through the Yahoos of the world to pure "destination" sites that really offer value to the user.

It just seems to me that Yahoo is trying to be everything to everybody while there are specialized destination sites out there beyond their filter that really focus on my specialized needs.

I say, thanks Yahoo for acting as my friendly "front page," but good luck in keeping me there...you are not doing a good job of it yet. If they did, I would be spending my time on the ridiculous Yahoo Finance chat boards :)
