Ron,

There are tons of neophyte web users out there right now, and AOL is their choice. All those diskettes they send out did the job of creating awareness and building their brand equity. They may not be the choice for more advanced web users, but they sure do a great job of "packaging" info for all these neophytes.

For someone like myself who has been around the block a bit on the web (and currently uses Mindspring), I don't need this handholding. However, I believe that I am in the minority camp.

There is just greater opportunity for AOL right now reaching these types of individuals.

What's growing faster - people "graduating" to services like Earthlink or Mindspring or the rate at which new users hit the web?

Also, AOL seems to be doing a much better job at retaining their subscribers...and the average user duration for AOL keeps growing and growing.

They must be doing something right...and something tells me that in short order, they will do something about all those advanced users who are "graduating" from their service.

I'm not betting against them right now.
