Thought you might find this intersting. news.com GE Electronic Commerce Conference Features Former President Bloomberg News February 20, 1999, 4:32 p.m. PT GE Electronic Commerce Conference Features Former President Orlando, Florida, Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) -- General Electric Co., one of the top three providers of business-to-business electronic commerce, will feature a speech by former U.S. President George Bush and presentations by top chief information officers at its annual conference. More than 80 sessions on electronic commerce will be held at the GE Information Services, or GEIS, conference beginning tomorrow in Orlando, Florida. GEIS, International Business Machines Corp. and Sterling Commerce Inc. are the top three providers of business-to-business electronic commerce, according to industry analysts' estimates. Companies are switching their method of purchase orders and other business to electronic transactions because it saves money and eliminates mistakes. Forrester Research Inc., for example, estimates $499 billion in transactions will be conducted electronically by 2001, up from $43 billion in 1998. By 2003, that amount is expected to increase to $1.33 trillion. GEIS, whose clients include companies such as construction equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. and No. 2 discount retailer Kmart Corp., hopes to capitalize on a rapid transition from older technology to so-called extranet technology, or secure transaction systems over the Internet. The four-day conference will held at a resort in Walt Disney Co.'s Disney World.
