Ron,

You have some excellent points about the repercussions of an increase the price of gold. It is most certain that it would have some negative consequences. To me though, it is like performing surgery to remove a tumor. Some risks but if caught early enough, metastasis may be prevented down the road which could destroy the entire "organism" which in this case is our new global economy.

One of your big points is that perception matters. In one sense, I cannot argue. Our discussion is much like debating Newtonian Physics vs. Quantum. Is there intrinsic value or is it all perception? On a larger "grosser" level, Newtonian works better but on a much smaller scale, quantum explains things. My perception is that if I had a gold coin in one hand and a US Bill in the other, the gold coin is much prettier. <g>
