Zues

you and others responded to my questions a while back about multi-monitors

this is where I ended up

since this is a pure trading station, no graphics, nothing fancy, I went mid range

P11-400
Asus P2-B mother
WDC 8.4 gig
LU 56k
128 SD-RAM
Creative Blaster Extreme 4MB PCI's
Logitech cordless mouse
Win 98
and the usual other goodies
plus a Resource, 8 plug surge protector with 4 battery back up
2 cheapo Proview 17's

total a few cents over the $2000 mark

monitors set up as 17"-20"-17"
1024 x 768 resolution

since about all I know on these things is how to hit the on button it's a good thing that this worked right out of the box

may take a while to get used to scrooling the mouse/curser accross 3 screens
may fiddle with the resolution and/or font type/size till I get what works best for my old eyes on each application

still having a small problem adjusting each window to properly fit each screen, getting there

have settings at "32 bit true color; is this ok or should it be changed to "256 colors"?

my biggest concern/confusion had been the PCI cards
was pushed to go 8 or 16 mgs; high end cards
the shop said these 4's would work fine, would replace if not
so far they were right
will know better this week when I have all apps running in real time;
fingers crosed

anyway my fear level buying this was off the scale; that was a waste of energy; turned out to be a breeze

I have had the resolution up to 1280*1024 on my monitors with no prob.
How many colors?

1280 x 1024 resolution x 1 = 1.31 megabytes for 256 colors

IMO...

I consider 256 Color unnacceptable. With a 2M I very much prefer and recommend 1152x864 x 65,536 colors.
