MKC,

While labour cost will be lower in Asia, you still have to keep component costs in mind. And since DELL will manufacture locally, they will get the benefit of lower labour costs as well. So, finally, it will boil down to efficiency. Which is a tough call to make.

<<<Asians will make cheaper computers than DELL could ever imagine possible. Cheap and powerful PC's will be made locally and the outsiders won't stand a chance. So, even if Asian PC market is
about to boom, the boom ain't gonna land in Austin.>>>
I cant buy that completely. Dell was in Penyang using local workers long ago. Is now in China with two plants. Has been in Ireland with local labor. Is going to Brazil. Reports are that Austin is rather full-up so Dell may get another plant in the US, after they finish building on the 570 acres in Austin.

MKC;

I can't say I totally disagree with your point of view. Check out the bit about EMachines in the linked post below.

Hmmm.... the Asians working in DELL plants in Asia are not Asians?
That is a new one on me.

DELL hires locally and sources their parts locally so it it a stretch to say that some one other local is going to make computers cheaper than DELL.

No very illuminating.
