Dennis, what is important to note is that Valence decided to put out a press release tooting their horn in regards to the significance of this latest discovery. We can debate the merits of the patent here but I'll put my money on Lev's comments as to the advantages. What is considered by Valence to be material events is definitely muted. That is why there is special significance to this latest patent, which is beyond the scope of understanding of the posters here.
