At that time the Japanese brokers were extolling the virtues of CEFs to their countrymen, who bought regardless of the premium. I recall a couple of articles on the subject at the time, perhaps in Grant's.

Since Schwab is up nicely at the moment I am trying to get some of the January 2000 put 40s at 2 1/4. Thought I would try a slightly shorter maturity and maybe do better if we get a big tank any time between now and the end of the year. This pretty well completes my diversification over companies, though AMAT sure does look good, and I'd like to get back into AMZN if the nuts kick it back up again.

Have to keep reminding myself that this is the purest kind of gambling.

I think maybe with 2-year leaps, a 40% gain is good to settle for if it come quickly. I waited a little long on LU and it took a jump.
