EDS NAMES JAMES E. DALEY CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Former Price Waterhouse Co-Chairman Assumes New Post on March 8, 1999
PLANO, Texas -- EDS (NYSE: EDS) today announced that James E. Daley has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer, reporting to EDS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard H. Brown. Daley will assume his new post March 8, 1999. During his 35 years at Price Waterhouse, L.L.P., Daley held a variety of executive positions, including co-chairman and chief operating officer, vice chairman-international, and global accounting business services leader for the firm's financial services practice.
Daley also served for more than eight years as a member on the firm's domestic and worldwide board of directors and management committees. During his seven-year term as co-chairman from 1988 to 1995, he was directly responsible for all the firm's domestic professional service lines and regional practices. He left Price Waterhouse in June, 1998.
“Jim is an accomplished senior executive with the ideal combination of operating, financial, strategic and international experience to help lead EDS into the future,” said Brown. “He has the discipline and creativity to improve revenue and cost performance, and also can contribute to creating effective market strategies. In a business with global opportunities as promising as ours, that's a winning mix of talent and experience, and we're delighted to welcome him to our team.”
"I look forward to serving an organization of EDS' caliber and market opportunities," Daley said. "I believe that my experience in financial and strategic leadership across the globe can help EDS address its challenges and opportunities."
During his tenure as co-chairman and chief operating officer, Price Waterhouse revenues more than doubled, reflecting Daley's focus on performance and leadership in several major areas. For example, a significant component of the firm's growth during that time was its management consulting practice, which was reorganized with a strategic focus on information technology.
Also during that seven-year period, Daley, 57, was heavily involved in the launch of the firm's highly regarded enterprise resource planning practices. He instituted enhanced cost-control techniques, reorganized the firm's internal risk management procedures, and spearheaded Price Waterhouse's use of technology to improve its performance for clients. In addition, he was instrumental in organizing and had strategic oversight for Price Waterhouse's leading professional practices in Eastern Europe, Russia, China and other emerging markets.
Daley held positions of increasing responsibility at Price Waterhouse, beginning with his admission to the partnership in 1974. He was managing partner for the firm's northeast region from 1985 to 1988, vice chairman-international from 1995 to 1996, and global accounting business services leader for the firm's financial services practice from 1997 to 1998. He also served from 1974 to 1988 as the firm's engagement partner on a number of the nation's largest multinational corporations.
Daley holds a Bachelor's degree in business administration from Ohio University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He is a director of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America and chairman of the board of trustees of The Ohio University Foundation.
