If there has ever been a time for Qcom to make a jump in price, this is it. ERICY - QCOM talks, insider trades, annual meeting, positive trade show reports AND having a lock on the truth regarding IPR and patents add up to the time to buy July 70 options, QAQGN. DISCLOSURE: My record for making the correct call on Q options is DISMAL!!

Guys,

I feel kind of responsible for this now common error so all please pay attention. Qualcomm does not have 1500 CDMA patents. What I believe caused this error is when I and others stated that the NTT DoCoMo ITU proposal listed 1500 Qualcomm patents. This is true. At the end of the document there is page after page of Qualcomm patents listed. And it's true there are approx. 1500 listings! But there are NOT 1500 patents. This listing showed patents issued by respective countries. The 1500 number might actually represent only about 150 patented ideas. Each patent might have 10 listings because each listing was for the particular country the patent was issued in.

From one of Qualcomms press releases: "QUALCOMM has an extensive CDMA patent portfolio with over 130 CDMA patents issued and approximately 400 patent applications pending in the United States, Europe, Japan, Korea, China and elsewhere around the world."

BTW, the reason I mentioned the NTT DoCoMo patent list in the first place is because it listed those companies who stated they had essential IPR to Japan ARIB W-CDMA. The largest holder of essential IPR by far was Qualcomm, followed by a number of Japanese companies. I was also surprised to find listings for Airtouch. Noticeably absent from this list was Ericsson. I would have thought Ericsson would want to be very visible with the Japan ARIB W-CDMA proposal and they weren't even listed. Made me wonder????

Walt

John: Did you try and sell her on the Qualcomm phone or a specific service plan that offered a Qualcomm phone?
You have to sell the plan as much as the phone.

ATT & ERICY interests are not congruent. ERICY has a global mandate to switch all of its GSM systems to CDMA air interface. That's a huge order. ATT has shown no interest in converting to CDMA yet. That will cost them a lot of money, not to mention it will be an embarrassing position for them as companies like Sprint reap the rewards of their CDMA investments.

Armstrong has this dream of a global phone. He is trying everything in his power to slow down the direction of technologyin the wireless market (remember his discussion of a World Phone?) GSM will not exist as an air interface in 5 years.

ATT is the only major telecomm provider in the world betting on TDMA. Their technology in the international market is completely irrelevant. CDMA has a global mandate to become the universal technology for wireless systems.

The CDMA debate vs. TDMA has been over for a long time. Until recently, ATT had no wireless competition in the US. Now, Sprint & Airtouch are gaining market share against ATT in the wireless market. Hopefull, Bell Atlantic and Airouch get together to offer a national one rate package. ATI must get over their sucess with the VOD merger. It is time for ATI & BEL to form a national partnership to offer free roaming & long distance for their CDMA networks. Perhaps, they are waiting for the QCOM & ERICY compromise to be reached.
