Yes, Dale. ME! Gimme a jingle Monday, and I'll get you a current quote w/includes my modest mark-up. They are hard to find, but I have my sources. Premium for "shot" is even less than for silver rounds, let alone 90% bags.
BTW, for all you coins only buffs out there, I'd like to share my thoughts on what is known in the trades as "silver shot", "gold shot" & jeweler's shot. This is a copy of an e*mail solicited by one of the newsgroups I'm a guru to in other 'net travels:
WESTERN culture folks (US & Canadian) mostly have NEVER learned how to recognize, test, or weigh gold. PERIOD. We have gone the "instant knowledge route" rather than learn frankly. This wrong thinking has led Westerners to primarily believe that we can ONLY trust that something is gold IF 1) it comes from a gov't mint or 2) is stamped with a highly recognized refiner's insignia/logo called a "hallmark."
This mindset is so totally "wrong thinking!!!"
Gold Jeweler's Shot is NOTHING MORE/NOTHING LESS than 1) gold nuggets which have been melted down and reformed into funny ball-like shapes, OR 2) melted down gold repair scraps that have been heated and reformed. In otherwords, JUST THE FORM CHANGES. Also, anytime one uses heat in the making of GOLD SHOT, it tends to becomes even MORE pure than either the original nuggets or original scraps were to begin with.
Yes, there are cheats around that try to sell as gold: 1) brass pellets, shavings, etc., or 2) electro-plated copper or silver, for example, especially if they are dealing with a pawnbroker. The reasons why pawnbrokers are targets shd be obvious, since pb's like to "loan at 12-25% of an item's wholesale value," and charge Annual Percentage b>Rate of 265% normally. And, NO, that is not a typo.
BUT, anyone in the gold buying and OR gold selling business, understands that EVERY SINGLE PC needs to be tested for gold purity, REGARDLESS of the 1) gov't stamp or 2) the refiner's mint mark.
This is called "testing gold's PURITY!" Purity is determined by how many parts the whole are present during the test. The whole is known as 24K. The purity can range from skimpy .001 micron plating to 24K pure (24/24ths)
AND THIS TESTING, whether one is looking at round, square, crooked, wavy, or twisted gold or silver, DOESN'T MATTER.
Those that DON'T understand how to test for purity, simply lack both the knowledge and 3 simple tools required to be good gold dealers.
Oh, and one more thing, I refine 22K to 24K gold shot all the frigging time. It is easy to change gold's form. 10K shot and 14K shot are NOT the only choices. And I'm not the only one who knows how and does it regularly.
And it is easy to test for gold purity. Just b/c pawnbrokers prefer the "shortcut test" i.e., stamped and/or hallmarked gold, is just another indication of wanting to process LOTS of gold, and not do the time consuming checking on individual gold pieces, regardless of their size and shape. And I've got news for you, the pawnbrokers DO test for purity all stamped karat rings, all stamped karat bars, and all nuggets that come in their front door, also. Not to do so is tantamount to move from businessman to poorhouse, QUICK!!!
EVERYONE on the Y2K BASICs list who buys gold from ME twice gets a chemical gold and silver test kit for free. PLUS I wrote the simple, straight-forward instructions as to how to use it SAFELY, right there at home, OR IN one's local PAWNBROKER'S shop.
