Perhaps Mr. Meehan should answer as I have just barely cracked the book and am having trouble motivating today...

But Le Bon was a physician that took to writing. The book was written in 1895 and is one of the first attempts to scientifically study crowd behavior. I.E. how people act differently in crowds. There is also reference to how leaders of crowds try to manipulate them. Perhaps some of the characters in TW's Road series have read it <g>

"Gustave LeBon's The Crowd is not only a classic, but one of the best-selling scientific books in social psychology and collective behavior ever written. Here, LeBon analyzes the nature of crowds and their role in political movements. He presents crowd behavior as a problem of science and power, a natural phenomenon with practical implications. Originally published in 1895, LeBon's book was the first to expand the scope of inquiry beyond criminal crowds to include all possible kinds of collective phenomenon...."
