Tom Watson: Debian Linux is generally considered the best implementation of Linux available today (i.e. the most flexible and closest to the Open Source origins of Linux). RedHat is continuing to fork the general Open Source origins of Linux.

Slack is slicker than Red Hat IMHO. It lacks upgradeability but their philosophee is no brokee no fixee. I like FVWM-95 better than redhats offering. They do have a package tool in slack. I think you could do RPM's if you tried. I have transported slack progs to RH and vice versatude.
