On the Taiwan stock market jumping 4.7% on the first trading day after the Lunar New Year.

Just my theory:
The Year of the Rabbit is of course believed by many to be an improvement on the Year of the Tiger, which has proved to bring bad luck and misfortunes to the bulk of the population. The Tiger overshadows and conflicts with most of the other signs in the Chinese horoscope. So, it may be that many think this is a start to a better year.

On the serious side, however, here is an article from the Economist, on the dreaded "D" scenario facing the world economy:
