Dell Consigns Laptop Computer Production to Sharp, Nikkei Says Tokyo, Feb. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Dell Computer Corp. of the U.S. has consigned production of laptop computers to Japan's Sharp Corp., the Nihon Keizai newspaper said, without citing sources. Sharp has begun manufacturing 2.8-inch, 1.4-kilogram notebook computers and will supply them to Dell. The U.S. company will sell the computers under its own brand name, the report said. Japan's domestic shipments of personal computers rose 16 percent during the October-December period from the same time a year before, the Japan Electronic Industry Development Association said earlier this month.
