But you have to back each dollar, yen, and Euro..etc. note with a corresponding amount of gold set at a certain exchange rate.

Otherwise the gold standard would be as much of a fraud as Fiat money since there wouldn't be enough gold to meet demand for conversion.

Could we enlist homeless people and high school students (on vacation of course..:0) to mine for gold??

Should we institute gold recycling centers for the collection of old wedding rings and gold teeth?

Or maybe, just maybe....

Do you think we should peg the dollar at $35/ounce again??

Or maybe $300/ounce? Or how about $500/ounce??

But wait... unless you peg the dollar to a POG of $850, then gold will have lost its claim as a storehouse of value (at least to those who paid that much for an ounce back in 1982).

Indeed a quandary.
