>>Don't the arguments against CLIK! in effect argue that Mavica is a failure? <<

No.

The main draw to the Mavica is its use of the 1.44 floppy. People like the Mavica because they are already very familiar with the storage media and its use. People also like the fact that they can take the floppy out of the Mavica and slip it directly into their home computer and load images off of that. No transfers. No cables. No base stands. No caddies. No new drives needed to buy. This is what people like about the Mavica.

Simplicity and Familiarity.

Iomega Flop! does not fit the argument since no one has a Flop! drive in their computer. It is an unfamiliar format-- no one has ever heard of it.

Besides, the standard floppy drive is not subject to head crashes since the read/write heads are already in full contact with the disk media. Flop! drives on the other hand are primed and ready for a full-on head crash and disastor because the read/write head floats micrometers away from a 3000rpm spinning disk.

One wrong move, and your Flop! drive and disk are toast.
