Don't you remember when IRAN got their gold embargoed just before we took strong measures to get our hostages back? They didn't get the "gold dust/pocket change" until about 15 months ago if memory serves.

WE sued the hell outta 'em, as well as all the family members who had their loved ones lawfully imprisoned, as well as the family of that poor old fella in a wheelchair they killed by pushing overboard. Holding their gold hostage stateside was the ONLY lever we ended up having with that crazy bunch of hooligans!

Sounds to me like Andy is trying to wave a brakeman's lantern re: repurcussions of our next assault, this time on Kosovo. Evidently Russian sabre rattling is making him nervous...

What say you to this analysis...(I promise to be nice<VBG>)?

2/22/99 - South Africa"s gold output falls 3.8 percent in 1998

JOHANNESBURG, Feb 22 (AFP) - South Africa produced 473,770.7 kg (15,232, 080 ounces) of gold in 1998, 3.8 percent down from the production figure for 1997, the Chamber of Mines, representing major mining houses, said in a statement on Monday.

Output for 1997 was 492,533.5 kg (15,835,318 ounces).

Production for the last quarter of 1998 dipped six percent to 119,014.5 kg (3,826,404 ounces) from the 126,476.6 kg (4,066,320 ounces) in 1997"s October to December quarter.

The last quarter output in 1998 was also 0.7 percent lower than the 119, 863.6 kg (3,853,705 ounces) produced in 1998"s third quarter, July to September.

The output in the third quarter of 1998 was 3.7 percent lower than that of 1997"s third quarter when 124,475.5 kg (4,001,980 ounces) was produced.
