Jim,>>>I don't know how many "very few" is but my point is that as a % of total income a Pentium III machine in China is very very high.<<<

As a %, very few Chinese will be buying a house, condo, co-op, vacation home, automobile (new or used), go on vaction where they need to fly or stay at a hotel, sending kids to private schools, pay tuition for college, buy designer clothing, and/or purchase a second or third car. As a % of total income, however, the Chinese family will spend a lot more of their income for a Pentium III than the average US home.

What is more important is that on a unit basis they will buy more PIII's than English, Italian, French, Dutch, or Irish citizens - and the differential will increase dramatically over time.

The gap between US and Chinese PC adoption rates for the home will narrower.

Any doubts?

Mary

Jim, Re: Have you ever been to China Gary? <G>

I have been back to China(where I am now) for about a month.

>Actually I have a great respect for the Chinese culture and
>it kind of torques me when some of the Intel posters started
>making fun of the chinese government spying on Pentium III
>users.
Chinese culture is very different from the current Chinese
government. Even Chinese make fun of the Chinese government.

>Gary, I don't know how many "very few" is but my point is
>that as a % of total income a Pentium III machine in China

As a % of total income, even MediaGX is very very high. So you
really have no clue(not even a wild guess) on how many PIII
will be sell.
