milehigh, your post from sony sure has a lot of incredible detail if dissected a bit. here is a clip and a few thoughts. i am trying to avoid irrational exuberance as well as unreasonableness, so i will just deal with the facts. the clip....... I am very, very concerned about the state of Direct Rambus development," said Ken Kutaragi, chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment America and a lead designer of the Playstation. "Many, many companies are still developing their first Direct Rambus products, and 133-MHz SDRAMs and DDR DRAMS are not stable. The availability of 0.18 silicon is also a big concern. There will be no significant 0.18 foundry capacity until the end of the year." sony is very concerned about getting sufficient quantities of rambus memory this year. i understand that. rdram production is just ramping up and everyone else has their rdram orders in. sony committed to rdram late, but commit they did. they were just late and have to get in line. as rambus rdram production increases expect sony to announce more products using it. toshiba seems to be happy to try to fill sony's rdram shortfall (remember too, toshiba is the world's largest laptop producer. hmmm, think about that.). all of this means more and more unexpected royalties for rambus. it is very important for us to note the status of rambus' competition. the CEO of SONY has declared high speed sdram and ddrdram "UNSTABLE" and says sony will go with rambus rdram. WOW...ddrdram = unstable!!! can we get cnbc to say that?! "ddrdram is an unstable computer memory", as stated by the CEO of SONY. that one little statement has enormous implications. that means everyone has to use rambus to avoid computer unstability. SONY SAYS DDRDRAM IS UNSTABLE. catchy little tune don't you think? the sony ceo further says, "many many companies are still developing thir first rambus products." read that again.. what is coming? what new rambus design wins are coming? what else is sony going to use rambus for? what are the royalties going to do to RMBS bottom line? we know the demand for rambus memory exceeded supply by approx 50% last month. now we need 23,000,000 more rdram units per year for sony playstation alone. and many many more products are coming. it seems the demand for rambus rdram's outside of the pc market is growing exponentially. rambus rdram is a very profitable product to make. for this reason production will follow demand for rdram. unclewest
