Thank you all for your ideas.

I am not invested in Japan, though I consider it. My concern is the idea that any long-term buy and hold investor in the US stock market will be rewarded eventually.

Japanese stockmarket is down 80% from its highs and continue to go down for more than 10 years.
We are not talking 20%-30% bear market for 3-5 years.

Of course each country is different. However, Japanese stockmarket, and their economy are the 2nd largest in the world.
Why should we assume it can not happen in the US?

Larry~Looks like your contrarian stance is finally paying off here. People are just now beginning to become aware that Japanese small-caps are running away from the market. This weekend Barron's highlighted this remarkable rally as Japan continues to struggle with its economic and financial problems. I've moved into this fund after a great run in the semi's (Select Electronics) and hope for a double here too as well as see Japan get a "jump start" in a market that has lost 60% of its value.~russ
