Computer Associates says deal clears U.S. rules

ISLANDIA, N.Y., Feb 22 (Reuters) - Business software maker Computer Associates International Inc. (NYSE:CA - news) said U.S. regulators granted early termination of the waiting period under U.S. antitrust rules, clearing the way for its tender offer of Computer Management Sciences Inc. (Nasdaq:CMSX - news)

On Feb. 8, Computer Associates announced plans to buy Jacksonville, Fla.-based Computer Management in a cash tender offer worth $435 million.

Computer Associates said the tender offer will expire March 9, unless the offer is extended.

Computer Associates shares traded at 43-1/4 on the New York Stock Exchange in the early afternoon, up 1-1/4 on the day. The stock has a 12-month high of 61-15/16 and low of 26.

Computer Management shares traded at 27-15/16 on the Nasdaq in the early afternoon, up 3/16 on the day. The stock has a 12-month high of 28-1/8 and a low of 7-1/8.
