Glenn, as you might remember, Mary Meeker has been quoted as saying she would sell Amazon if they announced they were turning a profit. Those were her exact words.

Now, if you are Amazon, and you want to keep the analysts happy and your stock price high so you can sell your options and buy a mansion in seattle, why would you want to turn a profit? Meeker said she would dump the stock if they did!

The way I read it is, because DiRomualdo wouldn't pursue a money losing Book selling enterprise. They retired him out to his home in Naples, Fla.

Betcha he's not got the retirement $bucks that Bezos will have in a couple of years.
