Yes, this is just prop(aganda). Even a close friend told me
recently "P/E ratios don't matter with internet stocks", well
I think that do. The reason (theoretically) we are buying these
stocks anyway is based on a flawed theory of expected
future earnings. Based on the these P/E ratios - if they have
one - we'll have to wait about 150 years to cash in. In the old
days - before 1980 - people bought stocks - mostly because they
paid dividends - and had some appreciation. Now its wild appreciation
and no dividends. As a follower of Yahoo - I've noticed that
Yahoo has an army of "good news" PR folks that have the job
of daily providing us with the next good reason why their stock
should be selling at 1200 times future earnings. Buyer beware.
