(MTO) ORCKIT: Orckit Communications at CeBIT 99 FEB 26, 1999, M2 Communications - Munich/Hanover/Tel Aviv -- Orckit Communications Ltd. (NASDAQ: ORCTF), Tel Aviv, a pioneer and world-leading supplier of DSL (digital subscriber line) solutions, is exhibiting at CeBIT this year to underscore its successes in the introduction of ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) technology in Europe, particularly in Germany. At stand H54 in hall 14, the company will demonstrate a broad variety of applications for ADSL and VDSL (very high speed digital subscriber line) with the aid of interactive applications such as c-commerce and high-quality video-on-demand solutions. Orckit will also present publicly for the first time a new product, CopperTrunk II, an HDSL (high bit rate digital subscriber line) system. Developed from Orckit's earlier-generation HDSL systems, CopperTrunk II offers a distinct improvement in overall performance, a greater range (up to 12km), complete backward compatibility and interoperability with the already installed base of systems, and significantly reduced power requirements. Live FastInternet ADSL Orckit will demonstrate ADSLs impressive transmission speeds over direct ADSL connections to partner companies, such as Deutsche Telekom, Fujitsu Telecom. and Lucent Technologies. The data transmissions will run over conventional copper phone lines. but at rates up to 300 times faster than achieved by analog modems. "Orckit offers a broadband DSL 'pipe,' capable of carrying huge quantities of information. It's important, though, to show relevant real-life examples to demonstrate what telecom operators can achieve using this pipe," explains Dan Arazi, Executive Vice President of Orckit. HDSL over Fiber To ether with partner Bosch Telecom, Orckit will be demonstrating a new system that enables HDSL transmission over fiber optic cable. The entire HDSL system will be managed by Bosch's NSU Network Management System. This new family of products enables greater flexibility in HDSL deployments for the telecom operator. CopperTrunk II The CopperTrunk II product line utilizes the latest technology in 2B IQ transmission and silicon integration from Conexant (formerly Rockwell Semiconductor Systems). Furthermore. CopperTrunk II can remotely power-feed a regenerated HDSL line, supplying power to both the regenerator and the remote unit from the central office. This enables telecom operators to provide highly reliable service to their customers. even in regenerated links, regardless of power failure at the customer premises. By enabling the placement of two regenerators on an HDSL line, CopperTrunk II can be used to triple the reach of typical HDSL transmission up to an overall distance of 12 km. This enables telecom operators to extend HDSL services to a much wider range of customers, including those in rural or remote locations on the periphery of urban areas. The CopperTrunk II system offers a wide range of interfaces and features to enable telecom operators to supply a variety of voice and data services to customers.
