Spyhop article @ Network World

I think they've got the "specializes in newspapers" part wrong, but it's nice to see some publicity.

Search engine for newspaper junkies

By Chris Nerney
Network World Fusion, 02/19/99

An Internet search engine start-up yesterday unveiled
the beta version of a Web site that specializes in
helping users find information printed in newspapers
from the U.S. and around the world.

The site, www.spyhop.com, lists results by the number
of references to the search subject in each publication.
For example, a search of the name Microsoft yields
2,200 hits on 34 sites, with results ranging from
Arizona Republic's 1,228 mentions of the software
giant down to the lone mention contained in the Juneau
(Alaska) Empire Online. More publications are
scheduled to be added over time.

The new site is owned by WordCruncher Internet
Technologies of Draper, Utah, and is based on
technology developed at Brigham Young University.
Besides newspapers, "spyhop" also catalogs and
accesses computing sites.

WordCruncher officials say the term "spyhop" refers
to how marine mammals such as walruses and seals
raise their head out of the water to examine their
surroundings.
