A good programmer doesn't need source code to see how something works.

All you need is a good ICE and you can do pretty much anything you want.

EG numega.com makes something called the SoftIce. I have used it. It is very powerful. With SoftIce you can see how windows works without having the source code. I have uncovered bugs in windows source using SoftIce. I have used it to figure out how things work. All without the actual source in hand.

Where is the harm to the consumer?

As I understand it (and please correct me if I'm mistaken), the DOJ does not need to show actual harm to consumers in this case because the law on which the case is based assumes harm if a monopolist engages in certain practices including tying and predatory pricing. DOJ must prove with a preponderance of evidence that those actions took place and that MS has a monopoly in this market. The civil suits filed last week would have to show actual harm, but that's not an issue in the current case.

Just posted Arena's analysis for a viewpoint to the thread--nothing more. No need to be combative.
