Or the deal could be done, but since they got burned so many times by giving us a deadline, they would prefer not to talk anymore. Think about it, if they give a deadline and something pop ups that delays the hole thing, they probably get hundreds of calls from people bitching about it. On the other hands, if they shut up, they will get less calls, and even if they don't need to work on it, at least they will get some peace and quiet.
