Kevin - Re: " The only meaningful comparisons, however, will have to wait until AMD releases a mobile version of the K6-III. Then we can compare directly with Dixon."

Why didn't AMD release a MOBILE K63 version today?

Intel's Mobile Dixon has been out for a month !

Re: " Use your head. Do you think it will generate more heat than the K6-233 MHz? Same package, same socket, worked just fine. Cooling is not the issue. Power consumption isn't really either, at least for the desktop market, which is what we've (apparently) been discussing. The issue is process technology. This may reflect a weakness in process technology, or it may be just a reflection of the need to increase power to supply the VASTLY greater number of transistors. I suspect it's a little of both. The only meaningful comparisons, however, will have to wait until AMD releases a mobile version of the K6-III. Then we can compare directly with Dixon."

The Mobil K6-2 electrical spec shows a max case temp of 85C when consuming far less power compared the 65C for the K6-3. This isn't going into a mobile box any time soon.
