<<nice to see CNN interview a different major oil company - one such as Chevron, >>

I expect this to happen for several reasons:
- to prevent litigation firms will have to be more and more careful in their wordings
- journalists will be more and more informed; and will be able to ask more pointed questions than in the past; possibly also motivated with mounting pressure from the general public
- increased pressure from business partners who want to know the status of their partners in the logistic chain

Still, the perception on the street is that Y2k is by and large a non-event; and Y2k remediation business will dry up quickly...

Knowledge of Y2k status in other parts of the world is still minimal (IMO) at most of the major newspapers; proper appreciation of the global logistical dependencies rudimentary at best.

We'll see how this evolves the coming months...

John

I think that pad answer from big companies on Y2K compliance is "we are on target". To me the reasons are obvious:

1) No body wants to admit that they are behind. they are afraid that wall street will lose confidence in their abilities.
2) It cost money, and will cost more money.. To admitt that they are going to be working beyond 1-1-2000 (notice that my post is now Y2K compliant) is admitting that operating expenses not forecasted will also be there. Translation: less profit.
3) Many companies are probably taking a wait and see attitude, but won't come oput and admitt it.

Just my thoughts. By the way, I am on my buddies system, my screen name is dbrondst
