Abovenet Introduces Its Solution to Internet Congestion With a National Marketing Campaign
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- What do six-inch, red patent leather high-heeled shoes have to do with Internet congestion? AboveNet Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: ABOV - news), the architect of a global One-Hop network that brings together ISPs and high bandwidth content sites in centralized co-location campuses, answered that very question. The company launched a campaign to educate the market on its solution for reducing the effect of Internet congestion caused by ''spikes'' in demand for connectivity. Unexpected surges in traffic continue to affect the Internet's reliability and performance, and AboveNet's global One-Hop network with more than 9.3 GPS of available bandwidth is the solution to this problem.

AboveNet's advertising campaign uses a provocative, eye-catching image of a high-heeled shoe to highlight spikes in demand for connectivity, which increasingly is becoming a significant problem as documented by the high-profile ''crashes'' that have occurred on the Internet in recent weeks. AboveNet's solution is its Internet Service Exchange(TM) (ISX(TM)), a world-class network built to minimize packet loss and its subsequent congestion, by maximizing the number of direct connections between networks and increasing available bandwidth per connection.

''Companies running mission-critical Internet sites are beginning to realize they need a network with clean available bandwidth to support their Internet presence. AboveNet has built a global One-Hop network to support the low latency and packet loss demanded by these sites,'' said David Dembitz, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for AboveNet. ''Our advertising campaign introduces AboveNet as one of the few companies that directly addresses the problem of high packet loss and congestion on the Internet.''

All of AboveNet's clients, both content providers and ISPs, benefit from reduced congestion, low packet loss, superior connectivity and uptime, allowing them to successfully leverage emerging Internet applications such as streaming media, Voice over IP, e-commerce, and other bandwidth-intensive technologies.

''We have optimized our network using our proprietary tools, such as Asymmetrical Allocation of Packets (ASAP_), to deliver packet loss of less than five percent, which is far below the industry average. We also manage our network to maintain this extremely efficient operation, by adding bandwidth whenever utilization approaches 50 percent,'' said David Rand, Chief Technology Officer for AboveNet. ''Our clients have access to all the 'headroom' they need, when they need it.''

AboveNet's advertisements can be seen in The Wall Street Journal, San Jose Mercury News, San Jose Business Journal and Washington Business Journal.
