New Palm announcements...

Derek wonders "Why 33.6? At this point in time I would almost think that the chipsets for 56k modems would be cheaper than the 33.6 ones, you know...the volume thing."

I don't know, but I have a guess. It's lower power.

One thing that the Palm has been killing WinCE machines on since the beginning of the competition is battery life... my original (model I) Pilot often doesn't need new batteries for six weeks or longer.

And I suspect that this is understood at Palm, and they aren't going to spoil it. So, if there's a chance for a major power consumption difference. I suspect they've taken it. They might also trade for size... or both.

Again, just my guess.

Dick
