If AOL buys ATHM, T/TCI/ATHM alliance will then become T/TCI/AOL alliance. All of us will be holding AOL stocks instead of ATHM stocks. May be all of us are happy campers except for Baby Bells.
I just can't imagine AOL to buy ATHM. It's too mind boggling to think of such a possibility.

Wont happen -- ATT owns a controlling interest - dont need 51% to be a controlling interest. 43% is plenty. More likely is an alliance which would grant ATHM % of AOL revenues that come from their pipes ? (similar to what AOL charges others) in exchange for not charging AOL subscribers the full $40 for ATHM, maybe $20 for ATHM and $20 to AOL)-- That will be a boom for ATHM (and solidify AOL's broadband presence) -- if it happens ATHM will zoom and eventually have at least an equal mkt cap as AOL.
