>''We want to invest for long-term market leadership,'' Covey told analysts at a
>BancBoston Robertson Stephens technology conference here.

Covey then might have added: "And I think the best way to assure the
short-term chances of me buying a mansion by the lake in Seattle like Bezos is to continue selling every share of AMZN stock I own, as quickly as I can. "

>> Online book and music retailer Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq:AMZN - news) expects its operating losses to widen slightly in the next few quarters as it invests for long-term market leadership, Chief Financial Officer Joy Covey said on Monday. <<

Far from me to be so suspicious, but I wonder if it isn't a setup so they can "beat expectations". That is exactly how they managed 98Q4. AMZN is following the script very closely. Next will be analyst upgrades saying losses aren't important. Revenues are. Don't be short overnight.
