Are you talking about the difference between regular 50% margin required to make a purchase as it is done at virtually every brokerage in America... verses the SPECIAL increase in inTRAday margin available for DAY TRADING under an aggressive interpretation of the new SEC rules?

I am presented with BOTH figures each morning, and I can CHOOSE to use the higher more aggressive level if I want to.

I find the biggest problem is that "no one" knows what my margin dollar balance is (when I carry positions overnight). They are dead-on correct if you have no positions overnight, but it is confusing to me otherwise.

I have started an Excel spreadsheet to maintain my margin account balance, and I reconcile it monthly when I get my statement.

One other "problem" is CONFIRMATIONS! Every broker I've ever had is able to mail me a confirmation within 24 to 48 hours of a trade. These guys started out needing 3 to 6 days, and that's expanded to where yesterday's mail had confirmations for trades dated February 4th. As of today I do not yet have any mailed conformations for trades after 2/4/99.

I did find just yesterday, that the confirmations ARE available right on the Web Page. Over-all I find the INSTANIOUS ACCESS to the Markets worth these inconveniences.

With these guys an Excel spreadsheet seems to be "a must".
