Integrated GSM Solution Features Compact PicoNode

CANNES, France, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ - France Telecom and Nortel Networks (NYSE: NT/TSE: NTL) are showing a truly integrated, fixed/mobile corporate GSM network this week at the GSM World Congress, the companies announced today.

The first demonstration of its kind in a live environment, this network features the Nortel Networks PicoNode, and allows attendees to make global calls and to try out voice mail, abbreviated dialing and other PBX features integrated across fixed and mobile phones.

The Nortel Networks PicoNode incorporates a base transceiver station, a base station controller and a mobile switching center into a single cabinet slightly larger than a personal computer. It provides GSM call switching, near landline-quality voice service and integrated PBX features in a compact package suitable for corporate environments.

We are always looking for new ways to provide innovative, value-added services and functionality to the corporate subscribers we serve,'' said Didier Quillot, commercial director, France Telecom Mobiles.

The Nortel Networks PicoNode solution enables corporate employees to work more productively by making and receiving crystal clear calls while inside a corporate environment,'' Quillot said. ''A PicoNode system also offers users the convenience of a single phone for both on-site and off-site calls by seamlessly interconnecting to both the wide-area public GSM network and the corporation's PBX.''

Itineris, the France Telecom GSM service, is the largest portable cellular phone network in France with close to six million customers.
