Mile,

My thought is that while Intel places big bets on RDRAM in the long run, it also wants to offer maximum flexibility to the vendors in terms of costs and manufacturing retooling during the transitional period.

I think the original Intel/Rambus roadmap has been played out like a text book, considering how "step-out" and enabling this technology is. (Anyone who has know drug development would realize this looks like clockwork by comparison.)
