Gene, despite all the doom and gloom from many market 'pros' this move yesterday could signal a technical breakout. What lends credence to this possibility is that the relatively low volume generated a DOW move of over 200 points and the Naz close to 60. And, all indexes participated!

I think we're in for a few more days of solid up moves as the shorts start covering even more and some sideline money comes into play.

Gene, just as I come back from holidays guess who warns? And, not just by a cent or two but by 16 cents vs first call! The only surprising thing about this is why they waited so long! My guess is they knew by mid March they were going to miss but needed to quantify this miss accurately. That's why they waited. After all they couldn't very well state they were going to miss and then come back a short while later and warn that their revised miss was still too optimistic.
That would make their management out to be incompetent, at best.

Speaking of 5fer and Mason. I suspect that they cannot survive this latest fiasco and both must be on their way out. I'm sure the board no longer buys into 5fer's vision and needs to re-establish some form of credibility with analysts and shareholders [particularly the institutional investors].

The new CEO and CFO will no doubt distance themselves from 5fer's pseudo direct strategy. And, just as IBM has a growing distaste for the PC business, Compaq must also re-evaluate their commitment to this sector.

The final results may just show DELL dominating this category as never before.
