Many of our major issues [guns, abortion, ] are clashes between 2 good, but irreconcilable principles. To have one forced into shut down by the other is bad. Until the time circumstances make the clash moot [like horse dung piling up in NYC-before the car], or few and far enough fringe [tank owners], or is overwhelmed by something bigger [guns=good in post apocolypse]--well, only compromise is most safe to the principles. Avoiding compromise--like registration--creates the <<undue restrictions>>.

To a large extent, this is the rationale behind much moderate thought--if there is a problem, we don't care who solves it, but the gov't is better than none. Of course, noticing a problem means no one is solving it. Do we aid the existing private or work on revriting gov't? Don't know.[&yes, many left-liberals do say gov't is first and best choice]
