I have a friend at co.- mid level management. He tells me senior execs tell him shorts are panicking and spreading false rumors (again - check co. history!). This fellow has been very straight with me so far (on the good news and bad news). Says management has traced false rumors (through their own brokers) to a New York City hedge fund called Rockor Partners (not sure about spelling). Rockor is apparently notorious for being "sleezy" and spreading any rumor they can - true or not - to further their position. They have apparently been very bearish - and very wrong - on this bull market for many years - and resort to "desperate tactics."
I think you are right. Earnings report looked great on both income sheet and balance sheet side. If I was a bear, I would be worried also!!
