I think AOL was a "portal" when portals weren't cool.
AOL Already is the number one visited site (not including NSCP's which is something around number 8?). Oh, it also happens to collect revenues from its visitors. Some of these portals seem like the field of dreams mentality that is so pervasive, build it and they will come. I like AOL, because thay don't get sucked into "everything needs to be given away for free" mentality.

Sometimes I think these Internet companies do not care about revenues as much as they should.

And as for Portals, I do not get Yahoo. Their PE ratio is even more astronomical than AOL's (admittedly both are out of this world), but AOL has the revenue to justify the higher PE.
