Sonny,

>> This might be the biggest surprise of all that Amazon may have greater sale number in Q199 than Q498 ... <<

Well, it is not really a surprise. The company said it yesterday. They also said it in 98Q4 conf call. People posted here many times. Mary Meeker repeated it right on que, today. We've been saying this for a week. The analysts whipping up the troops. But the effect is very muted, so far. I was hoping for 130 to 150.

Sarmad, many other retailers reporting great sale numbers even in the slowest month of
the year - January.

Sonny,

These were compared to last January not Decemeber. Amazon already admitted that January's numbers were far below that of December.

AMZN actually gave guidance in the Q4 phone call that Q1-99 revenues would exceed Q4-98.

MSDW is predicting a 5% increase over Q498. But these predictions tend to be conservative. I guess they will probably exceed Q498 by about 15%. However, we'll have to keep an eye on Media Metrix to be more sure. Last year it was a 32% increase ($87M vs $66M), but obviously on a much smaller base.

Does anybody still have the Media Metrix data for October 98? If so, please post to me on the thread.

Thanks,
Tom D
