Interesting post with link over on Yahoo THQ board about the ECW - Extreme Championship Wrestling. If you remember, we talked about this license back when THQ first lost WCW. (If this works out, I take credit for encouraging BF to get this license :-).

The info in the link rings true to me. Apparently THQ bought the ECW license for $100K about a year ago. With the WWF deal, the ECW license has become troublesome. The ECW is in financial trouble and needs funds from the sale of video games. Therefore is has begun pushing the issue now. Apparently, THQ is working with ECW to "shop" the license.

This is the same reason why a ERTS acquisition, IMO, is very doubtful. The combination would create major headaches with the WCW/WWF, and would likely require one license to go - probable WWF, because of the joint venture status. Given the legal headaches of unraveling the joint venture, along with abandoning a major license of THQ, would leave them pretty unappealing to ERTS, IMO.

Meanwhile, it is interesting what may happen with the ECW license. Apparently 8 companies have expressed interest. I'm sure AKLM is interested since they are "odd man out". THQ may stand to make some money off the sale of this license. Will be interesting to watch.
