Srini, >>>Intel breaks gigahertz barrier<<<

This says it uses special cooling, probably the same Kryotech refrigerator that was mentioned yesterday as getting a K6-III(?) up to 500 MHz. 1 GHz, 500 MHz...like 2:1 over AMD now. OK, the Intel one didn't run everything, a Power Point demo was done. Still, a heck of a lot of a processor has to run to do even a single ap like Power Point, so, Intel sounds way, way out in front to me.

Srini. RE: "Intel breaks gigahertz barrier."

"The audience watched as the CPU meter moved steadily to and then beyond the 1 GHz mark. Only six years ago, the Intel Pentium microprocessor was running at less than 100 MHz using 0.8 micron process technology."

Awesome!
