It's no puzzle to me. Apple forced everyone's hand on making a decision on whether to back the 1394 bus specification. I think it was an excellent move on Apple's part, they will still get 0.25 per device. If they started out demanding 0.25 per device people still would have complained and Apple would have backed down to 0.05 or 0.1 per device.

Always start higher than what you are willing to settle for!!!
