BROCADE AND DELL TO OFFER HIGH-PERFORMANCE
STORAGE AREA NETWORKING SOLUTIONS FOR
WINDOWS NT

BROCADE's Open, Full-Fabric Fibre Channel Solutions are
Key to Dell PowerVault SANs for Storage Consolidation

SAN JOSE, CALIF-February 23, 1999-Brocade Communications
Systems, Inc., (BROCADE®) a leading supplier of Fibre Channel
Fabric switches for Storage Area Networking (SAN) announced
today that it has entered into a technology and OEM alliance with Dell
Computer, the world's leading direct computer systems company.
Under the terms of the alliance, Dell has signed an OEM agreement
with BROCADE to use the BROCADE SilkWorm® family of
switches as part of Dell's new PowerVaultTM SAN solutions. The
PowerVault SAN solutions combine both primary and secondary
storage on the same high-speed, redundant Fibre Channel network.
The BROCADE standards-based Fibre Channel fabric switches and
Dell's leading storage solutions let companies maintain reliable and
efficient SAN environments that reduce the costs of managing NT
storage through a highly-available, centralized storage consolidation
and backup solution.

This alliance follows the recent announcement of FABRIC 2000TM,
BROCADE's strategic framework to maintain an open,
standards-based approach for storage area networks. BROCADE's
Fibre Channel switches connect servers with storage devices through
a Fibre Channel network that allows companies to access and share
storage in a high-performance, manageable and scalable Storage Area
Network. The BROCADE Fibre Channel switches provide a
scaleable, high-speed interconnect between server systems and
attached storage devices, such as tape and disk storage, optimizing the
use of these devices and the performance of data center applications.

"BROCADE's open, full-fabric Fibre Channel solutions offer
advanced connectivity for high-speed storage area networking
solutions. Dell selected BROCADE to provide the foundation for our
PowerVault SAN solutions because of the company's demonstrated
technical leadership in standards-based, reliable SAN connectivity,"
said Kevin Reinis, director of PowerVault marketing for Dell's
Enterprise Systems Group. "Our PowerVault customers will benefit
from the proven scalability and performance of BROCADE's Fibre
Channel switches in their SAN environments through greater access
to their NT storage."

"We are delighted to partner with Dell Computer and be part of the
PowerVault SAN solution," said Greg Reyes, President and CEO of
BROCADE. "BROCADE has set the standard for Fibre Channel
fabric switches. The combination of BROCADE and Dell's leading
storage consolidation and backup solutions for Windows NT raises the
bar for cost-effective, high-performance storage area networks."
