Thanks for that post. I wondered after I did it if it was something that I should be able to do. I do not carry a margin account with them. There is sell short button and I did not push that one. I am sure they would say that in a fast market they do not have the time to check every account and that I have signed a paper saying that I am resposible for all my trades on the internet. I think that account is on a cash only delivery for xxxx days because of a mistake I made a while back...bought more than what was in the account, so I don't think it should have been allowed.

Wonder if they'll notice...they are famous for allowing people to trade with money they don't have. It has happened to me a number of times and I have had to scramble to get out fast...usually at my loss.

You can sell short in a margin account. Happened to me this morning.
Your broker may have sold you shares they hold or of some other client's.

You need to be careful as brokers will not give you any breaks on these things.
