I've always wondered what a stealth campaign looked like. I have never seen a Christian conservative run who was not upfront about his or her platform. Some of the controversies over censorship I disagree with, but the issue is usually where do you draw the line in allowing access to minors, and I fear that they have reason to think that secular institutions are trying to undermine them, so I don't reject these complaints out of hand. Again, I am no big fan of blue laws, since the enforcement of the Sabbath would be a religious imposition, but that has not been a terribly large issue in my neck of the woods, so I don't know what to say. As for the hostility to Planned parenthood, that is only to be expected. Don't forget, in all of these controversies, someone has to win, or a compromise has to be reached that takes into account their position too. Take the commencement benediction controversy. The courts are saying that the majority has to bend over backwards so for to accomodate the sensibilities of the minority that they cannot solemnize the occasion in the customary way. Why shouldn't the majority get its way on this, and the minority be expected to be tolerant of community rituals. The compromise position would ensure a non- sectarian prayer, or provide for the rotation of ministers from all denominations in the community. That is how such things were largely handled for the last few decades. Now, the sensibilities of the majority are under assault, so that there is no lingering possibility of offending a minority. How is this right?
